The University of Law is one of the UK's longest-established specialist providers of legal education and training in the UK, with campuses in London, Birmingham, Bristol, Chester, Guildford, Leeds, Manchester and Nottingham, as well as our GDL and LPC courses being taught in the University of Exeter, the University of Reading and the University of Liverpool. Previously The College of Law, it was granted university status in November 2012.
It is widely regarded as expert in legal training – all of its tutors and course designers are qualified solicitors or barristers and have practice experience. It works closely with over 90 of the UK’s top law firms and chambers of all sizes and exclusively delivers the Legal Practice Course (LPC) to trainees at many of the leading global law firms. In February 2015 ULaw launched an MSc in Law, Business and Management, designed in conjunction with Linklaters.
ULaw is proud of its record of empowering students from all backgrounds to achieve their legal career goals. It supports qualified lawyers throughout the profession with a comprehensive programme of professional development courses. The commitment of the University to the employability of its students is reflected in its most recent destination figures: based on known destinations, 97% of full time LPC students who graduated in summer 2015 had secured employment within nine months of graduation. It also provides the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) to give non-law graduates an entry route into the profession and the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) for prospective barristers.

At least one seat will be in a finance practice and another within a transactional department. You will also have the opportunity to apply for an overseas or client secondment.
Where agile minds meet
Who we are:
We’re a leading global corporate law firm. But we’re not a typical one. Far from it. Life here means doing the best work for exceptional clients while being yourself. We look for individuals, not for ‘typical lawyers’. We’re focused, but we know how to have fun. And we collaborate. At every level. Which makes this a brilliant place to learn. To find your feet quickly. To get ahead.
So, are you ready?
What we do and where:
We offer legal expertise across a broad spectrum of commercial issues. And we have a diverse mix of clients. They include everyone from governments, regulators and trade bodies through to big corporates, global banks and not-for-profit organisations.
That variety definitely makes life here interesting. As does the scale and scope of what we do. Our work covers Corporate; Global Financial Markets; Real Estate; Litigation & Dispute Resolution; and Tax, Pensions & Employment.
And when it comes to where we are, we work in major financial centres across the Americas, Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
How you can get involved:
You don’t need a law degree to join us. (About half of our trainees come from non-law backgrounds.) What matters is that you’re resilient, curious, creative and open to new challenges. You’re someone who loves to learn. A great problem solver. A smart thinker. You’re commercially-savvy, solutions-oriented and up for working as part of a close-knit team.
One of the ways you can show us you have what it takes is to experience life here before you apply for your Training Contract. Take a look at our website to explore our different programmes for students – they range from Open Days through to summer schemes and virtual events.

Jones Day Question Time
Wednesday 16 October 2019 6pm
Hotel Indigo, Old Shire Hall, 9 Old Elvet, Durham, DH1 3HL
Jones Day is a global law firm with more than 2,500 lawyers in 43 offices across five continents. Our 200 London-based lawyers (including around 60 partners and 40 trainees) collaborate with their colleagues from Jones Day practices and offices across the globe to guide clients through their toughest challenges.
Our distinctive, non-rotational training system provides flexibility and early responsibility. Jones Day trainees assume their own workload and work across different practice areas at the same time.
Jones Day "Question Times" are interactive Q&A's (not recruitment presentations) and a fantastic opportunity to meet our panel of trainees, associates and partners. We want you to quiz our lawyers directly about their first-hand experiences of working in our global law firm; training in our distinctive, non-rotational system; and get to know them better over refreshments afterwards.
“My first interaction with Jones Day was at a Question Time. I really got a sense of the flat hierarchy by seeing the Partners, Associate and Trainees having an honest, real and open discussion with each other. Students asked lots of questions and I immediately got a feel for how Jones Day is different.” Karl, Trainee
All are welcome - whatever your year of study and whether you are a law or non-law student, graduate or postgraduate.
6.30pm: Q&A panel discussion
7.30pm: Chat with our lawyers over drinks and canapés

We are Hogan Lovells: one of the world’s most established global law firms, solving some of the toughest legal problems in 48 international locations. The best part? We do it all as one team, seamlessly across continents, borders and time zones.
Whether you join us as a trainee solicitor after you graduate, or during your studies on one of our vacation schemes or insight events, you’ll work with prestigious, high-profile clients from across the globe. Put simply, that means having exposure to exciting, headline-grabbing legal projects which help those clients become more innovative.
Each year, we take on 50 graduates (from law and non-law degree subjects) as trainee solicitors. Here’s how it works: on a two-year training contract, you’ll do four six-month seats across our different practice areas. Plus, for one of those seats, you’ll have the chance to apply for an international or client secondment. What’s more, you’ll have hands-on support and the expert guidance you need throughout.
Hogan Lovells also runs highly regarded summer and winter vacation schemes. Up to 70 places are available in total. Each lasts up to three weeks, and gives participants the chance to work alongside partners, associates and trainees in major practice areas. Students are exposed to two or three practice areas and learn to draft documents, carry out legal research, attend meetings and in some cases attend court. This hands-on learning is complemented by tailored workshops, case studies and social events. We also run Insight Days for first year law and non-law students throughout the year.
Applications open from 16 September 2019. For further information about the opportunities we offer and closing dates for applications, please visit our website at
